Our membership site devoted to helping birders have more fun in the field, and get more skilled at their birding is now live! Below Alvaro introduces you to the concept behind the site. But do visit the webpage itself to find out more, and to sign up! All of Alvaro's workshops will be given within the membership site, so a single annual membership will allow you to take part in all workshops, videos of previous workshops, masterclasses, conversations in the forum, and so much more. We are creating a membership site to grow community, and at the same time give resources to expand your skills as a birder. Each person will have a member profile and be able to connect to courses, other birders, discussions, live events, and discounts to live courses etc. It will be an ecosystem where you can enjoy birds, have your photos identified, learn skills, and just have fun. I am so looking forward to it. We have the basic structure made, but more work to do. Below is an example of what the forum page will look like, and a member (me!) profile. To find out more, you can sign up to our wait list. We are working on making the site more attractive, creating more content, and making sure things work seamlessly. Patience, it will be here soon!
We had two nice pelagics this last weekend, Aug 22 and 23 from Monterey. We went NW to the offshore Santa Cruz county waters and that was some of the most productive. The news is that we were able to see multiple species of storm-petrels, which are always great to see. Here is some imagery from the weekend. We return to Monterey on Sept 12 - you can book here. It has been a time of reflection and of slowing down the pace for many of us, and the same goes for us at Alvaro's Adventures. With international travel grinding to a halt we postponed several tours, giving time at home which has had its upsides. With this in mind we have been working hard on potential new trips for the coming year and into 2022. We also decided that this was a great time for a new beginning, and as such we have unveiled our new website. As you know, websites are living documents and we will be tweaking and changing things as we see what is working. Apart from the new look, and generally simpler and more visual representation of our trips, we are instituting a few other changes. One is that we will begin to offer credit card payment for all tours through square, with an option to pay by check or bank transfer at a savings if you prefer to purchase a trip or pay for a deposit in this manner. The whole idea of our trips is to make it fun and relaxing, so more choice and convenience in payment fits right in with our aims.
We are looking forward to trips in 2021, and are keeping up to date with how countries and regions begin to open to tourism in the coming months. We are hoping to begin to see a light at the end of the tunnel. We are very hopeful that treatments or even a vaccine will begin to be rolled out as early as winter 2021, for Covid-19. If you are itching to travel and see some birds, note that our Birds and Wine trip in Chile and Argentina still has openings. We have made deposits fully refundable up until the final payment deadline for trips. We look forward to a new beginning, a brighter future for all, and not going back to normal but eventually going back to something better! We also hope you like our new website, thanks so much for your support through the years. |
Alvaro's AdventuresMy mind wanders, but usually it lands on topics about birds, travel, science and just interesting stuff. The natural world is awesome, and hopefully our news blog will keep you up to date on what Alvaro's Adventures is up to, but also topics of interest in the bird, travel and science world. Archives
