- Wintering cranes of several species, by the thousands. We have seen 7 species of crane on this tour over the years, 5 are seen annually.
- An amazing diversity of ducks, swans and geese. This includes the flashy Baikal Teal, Falcated Duck, Mandarin Duck, and Smew.
- We visit the goose capital of Japan where 7 goose species are possible including the Taiga and Tundra Bean Geese, and the rare Lesser White-fronted Goose.
- We hope to find the largest owl in the world, the Blakinston's Fish Owl, an absolutely awesome bird.
- Hundreds of White-tailed and the incredible Steller's Sea Eagle on Hokkaido. This could be one of the birding highlights of your life!! It is absolutely spellbinding to see so many of these huge eagles, and with such fantastic photo opportunities.
- Short boat trip to see the Spectacled Murrelet and many other northern alcids including Least, Crested Auklets, and the rare "Kuril" Pigeon Guillemot. Japanese Murrelet is also a possibility.
